The Finnish Lifeboat Institution, also known as the Sea Rescue Society, is the central organization for 58 voluntary sea rescue associations. Its activities are based on the willing help of volunteer lifeguards and selfless work.
The Sea Rescue Society’s task is to rescue and help people who have been in distress at sea or in lakes. Through its activities, the company also promotes general boat safety and good seamanship.
Voluntary sea rescue activities are an important part of the national sea rescue service. Every year, the Sea Rescue Society’s crews help over 3,000 people and 1,000 vessels. The voluntary units’ emergency preparedness around the clock during ice-free time binds over 730 man-years annually.
The Sea Rescue Society is a member of the international sea rescue organization IMRF.
The Guides & Scouts of Finland
Suomen Partiolaiset – Finlands Scouter ry (The Guides and Scouts of Finland) is the national Scouting and Guiding association of Finland. The association has about 75,000 members.
Scouting is one of the most popular hobbies in Finland. To live with nature, act according to its conditions and protect and honor it, is one of the cornerstones of Finnish Scouting. Another important objective is to learn social abilities. Finnish Scouts and Guides learn how to become knowledgeable and active citizens, at ease with other countries and cultures.
The Norwegian Refugee Council is an independent humanitarian organisation helping people forced to flee. They work in crises in more than 30 countries, where they help save lives and rebuild futures. The NRC delivers high-quality aid where needs are greatest. When they started their relief efforts after World War II, humanitarian needs were critical. They still are – and the NRC is still there, protecting people forced to flee and supporting them as they build a new future. Today, the NRC works in both new and protracted crises across more than 30 countries, where they provide camp management, food assistance, clean water, shelter, legal aid, and education.
The Association of Friends of the University Children’s hospitals is a charitable organization, founded in 1993, which supports the five Finnish university children’s hospitals, development and research, and attempts to improve the comfort of patients during their hospital stay. Over recent years, the association has also placed significant attention on the mental health work of children and adolescents. Throughout its course, the Association of Friends of the University Children’s hospitals has made donations of about 38 million euros.
Founded in 1956, the Finnish Heart Foundation aims to support functions that promote heart and vascular health. The foundation works to achieve their aim by financially supporting not-for-profit organisations that aim to promote heart and vascular health.
The Finnish Heart Foundation has also supported the work of the Finnish Heart Association. Thanks to grants from the Foundation, the Association can promote the rehabilitation of heart patients and prevention of heart disease as well as support heart research. The Finnish Heart Foundation can receive donations through wills, endowments and gifts.
The Finnish Public Health Association, which is behind the Finnish Health Collection, has been fighting the most common public diseases in Finland since 1969. By donating to the association, you strengthen the most important pillars of Finnish public health for the benefit of pediatric research, mental health, cardiovascular disease and the well-being of the elderly.
