Doc’Riders: one of Belgium’s key sporting fundraising events

Launched eight years ago, Doc’Riders has become a major charity fundraising event in Belgium. Over two days, cycling teams take on a sporting challenge to raise funds supporting universal access to healthcare.

Médecins du Monde Belgium had already been using iRaiser’s donation forms for its online fundraising. In 2023, the organisation also decided to integrate the peer-to-peer fundraising solution to manage the Doc’Riders event.

Challenges overcome

Before implementing the peer-to-peer solution, Médecins du Monde Belgium faced several issues:

  • A complex user journey, due to multiple platforms and separate forms.

  • Lack of flexibility, forcing the team to recreate each campaign from scratch.

  • Heavy administrative workload, with dispersed data and campaign management.

The organisation needed an all-in-one tool to simplify internal management and provide both participants and donors with a smoother, more motivating fundraising experience.

Simplified online donations, easier fundraising

With iRaiser’s peer-to-peer fundraising tool, Médecins du Monde Belgium was able to redesign the digital journey for both donors and participants.

For donors, the online donation process is now simple and free of redirections. The entire donation journey takes place on a single, fully white-label platform.

For fundraisers, the platform offers a smooth online experience thanks to:

  • Customisable fundraising pages,

  • Built-in practical tips to boost donation appeals,

  • Inspiring testimonials and best practices shared among teams.

More autonomy and efficiency for the team

The peer-to-peer fundraising platform has also simplified the internal management of Doc’Riders, thanks to:

  • A centralised hub to follow participants, track donations, and manage data exports.

  • Simple customisation, allowing pages, messages, and content to be updated in just a few clicks, no technical skills required.

  • Fast, automated exports, saving valuable time for the team.

  • Greater autonomy for organisers, with the ability to make changes instantly.

  • A flexible back office, adapted to the specific needs of a large-scale fundraising event.

  • CRM integration, reducing admin tasks and ensuring smooth follow-up with their donor management system.

The result: fewer repetitive tasks, more independence for the organising team, and more time to focus on what truly matters: supporting participants and maximising the impact of the event.

An online fundraising success: €200,000 to €270,000 raised per edition

Each year, Doc’Riders achieves remarkable fundraising results, collecting between €200,000 and €270,000 per edition. Teams largely surpass their goals, with an average of €2,200 to €2,300 raised per team, far above the initial €1,500 target.

Exceptional participant loyalty

Doc’Riders boasts an exceptional loyalty rate: nearly 80% of registered teams include at least one past participant.

Recruiting new participants remains a challenge, even though the event continues to attract new teams. To address this, Médecins du Monde Belgium relies on creativity and innovation in its communications to raise awareness of Doc’Riders and grow participation.

Community at the heart of the event

More than just a charity event, Doc’Riders is a true collective and human adventure. Each edition brings together a tight-knit community where participants, volunteers, and supporters play a key role in the fundraising success.

Digital tools support the event experience by amplifying engagement and maximising the collective impact of Doc’Riders.

Médecins du Monde’s tips for running your own fundraising event

  •  Opt for an all-in-one solution: it simplifies both management and user experience.

  • Avoid multiplying tools: it complicates both management and user experience.

  • Offer a unique event concept: in a competitive sector, originality is essential.

  • Build a community: focus on the human experience (participants, volunteers, partners) to foster loyalty, engagement, and support.

“Every year, Doc’Riders raises between €200,000 and €270,000. While the fundraising target is set at €1,500 per team, the average actually exceeds €2,200, which demonstrates the outstanding commitment of our participants.”

“Today, everything is centralised on a single platform: registrations, fundraising, donation tracking. We’re much more autonomous: we can adjust pages or messages without going through iRaiser. It saves us a huge amount of administrative time and allows us to focus on supporting participants.”

“On the platform, the many customisation options open up new perspectives, especially to further motivate participants and strengthen engagement.”

“What really makes Doc’Riders strong is the collective spirit. Teams help each other, share best practices, and it even shows on social media. We also make sure participants feel supported at every stage: there are rest stops, refreshments, and even physiotherapists for massages.”
