Maarten van der Weijden swims 195km for cancer research
The Maarten van der Weijden foundation is a non-profit organisation with the ambition to improve the lives of current, past and future cancer patients, by raising as much funds as possible for cancer research. Its founder, Maarten van der Weijden, olympic gold medal winner in 10k open water swimming and cancer survivor, swam the 11 stedenzwemtocht (the 11 Cities Tour, first in 2018 & then in 2019), to raise funds using iRaiser’s event fundraising solution.
Through the duration of the 5-month campaign in 2019, an impressive total of €5.160.288 were raised, 177.000 people made donations (with peaks of 7,5 donations per second), and 600 people participated alongside Maarten.
